I am not really big fan of sheikh hero but this us the very last book of Ms. Shaw that I haven't read. I love her writing at most because I could feel the pains of both Hero and Heroine pasts in every word she wrote.For this book, I hate idea when gullible Erin agreed to go to Qubbah without thinking that she might lose her kid once she stepped on Qubbah. She should not agree coming there and being trapped.
But, it's kinda sounded unrealistic ending which Zahir abdicate his throne for her, not to mention all of his efforts to make her suffer and give up including blackmailed her to marry him for Kazim, or treated her like sex slave at night and utterly he made sure that he didn't love her just sex. All of those efforts were nothing in the end just by saying that he loved her. That's it and she believed him. How stupid she was. Sound unrealistic to me. Too much forcing into happy ending.
The plot this time felt like roller coaster, going up, then free fall, then going up again.

They could have done so much with the ending!! I expected some grovelling from the hero for the way he treated her. Instead, the heroine just accepts him again despite his previous behaviour. Totally foolish and spineless female protagonist!
Okay, I've read hundreds of HPs. I know how these work. Sometimes (often), the hero misjudges the heroine and treats her with less than respect. Then, misunderstandings get cleared up, everything's forgiven, and the characters live happily ever after. I've enjoyed some of those stories.
However, the hero in this one is so mean to the heroine. There needed to be much more groveling for a believable HEA.
fast-paced and intense, the writer takes you on a swift journey to romance. if you enjoy the alpha male and his helplessly enthralled heroine, then this book is for you. would have liked to see her have a bit more backbone but most of her actions are foreseeable given her past. the end justifies the journey.
The book's description is as follows "Erin Maguire is shocked to discover that her adopted son is the heir to a desert kingdom! Now they're en route to the land of Qubbah with little Kazim's uncle, the powerful and arrogant Zahir bin Kahlid al Muntassir! Zahir insists Erin marry him, and that his young nephew remain in Qubbah! She refuses to leave Kazim behind, but she's not of royal blood. Zahir will have a very ordinary virgin bride in his bed on his wedding night!"
SPOILERS It turns out that Kazim's mother died in child-birth and Erin become his nanny when he was 3 months old. When Kazim's father, Zahir's brother Prince Faisal, learned he was dying, he married Erin in order to facilitate her adoption of Kazim so that she could raise and raise him in England. Erin had no idea that Faisal had a large family or that his father was the King of a kingdom. She learns of the family upon the reading of the will, where she meets Zahir for the first time.
Now here is the really stupid part #1) Erin pisses off Zahir, who of course kisses her into submission and even though he's trying to take Kazim from her & threatens her, she of course, cannot keep from responding - making her look like a slut since she is a recent widow (we know it was a marriage on paper only, but Zahir does not)- acting like a slut, therefore giving him ammunition against her if he takes her to court. #3) The house cook (another idiot female), feels free to tell a complete stranger about Erin's childhood as an orphan and that she had trouble with the law as a teenager - more ammunition for him! #2) Erin immediately goes off to Qubbah (same day!) with Zahir because Kazim wants to fly a plane and see the desert to ride a camel - the kid is 3 years old! Under the circumstances, with Zahir acting like a completely arrogant, judgmental, stiff-necked, insulting macho jerk; with him consistently threatening to take Kazim from her, calling her a slut, telling her he will contact his lawyers, trying to buy her off!, Erin still goes off to a foreign Arab country - a place where England's laws will NOT protect her rights. A place where she could just be deported and then good luck getting Kazim back! She doesn't even talk to a lawyer first - can you say idiot?
I feel only contempt for heroines like this. Women who don't know even the most basic of facts. Who don't know how to protect even the most basic of their rights. Who succumb to desire no matter the circumstances as if they have nothing more than animal instinct in their heads without an ounce of reason. I do not find female characters such as this romantic. I find them TSTL. The only reason I gave this book 2 stars instead of 1 is because I will not be reading the rest of this book. The beginning is ludicrous enough for me.
I don't understand the author's rush! Why did she not make Erin just a tad smarter? Zahir a tad less of a jerk? They could of spent at least a few days in England where he convinces Erin it is in Kazim's best interest to visit his grandfather. He could have at least tricked her into believing it was safe, so she didn't come off as so dumb. Plot so contrived it ruined the intelligence of the main characters for me.
The H is alpha ... a bit cold, but if he wasn't there wouldn't have been a story worth reading. The h is likable ... I didn't find her stupid or a doormat. The sexual tension is hot and the sex scenes sizzle ... I read it in a day and will buy other stories by this author. Well done!
