Rendezvous A Novel Amanda Quick 9780553293258 Books

One of the most entertaining Regencies I've read this year. A sexy amusing romp with a touch of suspense and a very appealing heroine. Augusta, one of the reckless Northumberland Ballingers, admits she is lacking in the decorum exhibited by the more sober side of the family. She is intensely loyal to her side of the family, however, especially to the memory of her beloved brother. I like the starchy hero Harry too. He is an academic but there's another side to him we discover. Harry has a daughter and must marry. He has a list of possible brides. When he chooses Augusta he knows he is in for a wild ride. It takes him a while to work out why he is determined to marry her. Especially as Augusta is extremely reluctant to marry him.

Rendezvous A Novel Amanda Quick 9780553293258 Books Reviews

Rendevous is yet another in a long line of Quick suspenseful romance novels, complete with 'dangerous' villain, hero-spy bent on revenge, and free-thinking heroine. While it may sound like the synopsis of a few other Quick novels, Rendevous is an enjoyable escape novel, excellent for whiling away a few hours at the beach or a few chapters before bed. Don't expect any deep plot development or soulful love story, and you and this novel will get along just fine.

As other reviewers mention, Augusta uses the excuse of her reckless family so often that it becomes tiring - and quite contradictory to the free-thinking heroine who should be accustomed to doing exactly as she pleases. Quick does an excellent job of making Harry a pompous aristocrat, yet he is so delightfully confunded by his completely out-of-character actions when he's around Augusta that you can't help but like him. The Pompeia club is a nice twist, one that I don't recall reading about in other Quick novels, but also one that I don't think Quick should abandon.

For those of you who enjoy Quick novels that don't concern the paranormal, you'll be please with this addition to your repetoire. Not a must-read, but enjoyable nonetheless. Definitely worthy of borrowing from a library, if you have that option available.
This is a re-read for me. It's been on my keeper shelf (in the days before I had a ) since it was published, so that indicates to me that I liked it enough to keep it. My opinion today is vastly different. I could barely get to the end. Augusta was a very childish 24 year old and Harry was domineering. I got really tired of reading how the Northumbrian Ballingers where a wild, carefree bunch. Harry was overwhelm by his lust and she was happy to go along at all of these odd moments. Sorry to remove from my keeper shelf.

This is another of Ms Quick's fun cloak and dagger stories that involves two couples and personality opposites- for the heroes they are best friends who worked together during the Napoleonic War while the heroines are cousins from different branches of the same family. Both men are personality opposites who end up with the lady who is also a personality opposite on the surface. All the principal characters are well over 21 years old. They all struggle to keep their own "masks" securely in place while trying to see under the "masks" of the other. Again, the first marriage occurs early in the story and it evolves that they must work together as they are still trying to develop the trust so necessary. The "crazy glue" of the first relationship is the physical attraction each has for the other as they often function at cross purposes. A clue that some may be a bit more graphic than one is used to reading in some stories, but its well written and appropriate to the growth process in the relationship. During the various intrigues that the Earl and his Countess become involved in they put their best friend and close cousin in constant proximity to each other until they too, discover that once the masks are all lowered there is a great deal to connect them as well. It is an intriguing story although to tell the truth I sorta had the villain figured out early but there was a couple of "OMG" moments that certainly made the read very interesting.
